Palm Coast, Florida, is our designation, however, our members come from all over the country. No matter where you call home ~ you are welcome here!
Our mission is to promote colored pencil as a fine art medium. Our vision is to have an artistic space where everyone is welcome to express their creativity. Our values are demonstrated by a desire to educate, to provide artistic support, to practice inclusiveness, and to share our passion by cultivating a vibrant community of colored pencil artists.
You will be amazed by what you see when you delve into the colored pencil world. There is great debate whether using colored pencil is painting or drawing. Whatever your opinion, colored pencil allows for great precision and detail, the complex layering of colors, conveying of soft or sharp elements, and creating something special in portraits, nature, wildlife, city-, water-, and landscapes.
As a chapter, we are part of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) organization. CPSA, established 1990, has grown and now has a yearly International Convention and Exhibition in various cities across the country. The convention brings members together annually to network with other artists across the country while attending the membership meeting, the Exhibition and Awards banquet, and to take workshops from notable artists in this field.
At the time DC-117 was established in 2005, it was designated as “St. Augustine” as the city is a central point on the First Coast. Originally, our meetings were held in Palm Coast and our members attended from a wide area ~ Jacksonville to New Smyrna Beach and west to Gainesville. Now, members from across the country can join us via Zoom. Subsequently, our chapter name was changed to CPSA-DC117, Palm Coast Our Chapter, founded by Bill Shoemaker and Hanneke Jevons, started with several colored pencil enthusiasts and their desire to share and nurture their love of colored pencil as a fine art.
Anyone who is interested is welcomed at our meetings – no experience necessary! Many people get started in this medium after going to one meeting or show. They are fascinated with the vast possibilities of colored pencil. Our Chapter also sponsors workshops with nationally-known artists to help us learn new techniques and refine our skills. We welcome all interested artists to attend a meeting where we share our talents and colored pencil art information.
